Has Apple Given Up on the Vision Pro Headset?

Apple has given up on the Vision Pro headset after an M5-based refresh failed to reignite interest in the device, according to MacRumors. Apple gave the Vision Pro an update, which was limited to a faster M5 chip and a more comfortable headband in October 2025, although consumers didn’t respond as hoped.

The two main complaints about the Apple Vision Pro have been its weight and its high price tag. The $3,499 price tag, along with a neck-breaking weight of 1.3 pounds has been a turn off for many potential customers. So far, Apple has sold only around 600,000 units total.

While the Vision Pro has proven to be successful in several niche areas, the specialized uses haven’t proven enough to save the device.

MacRumors’ sources tell it that Apple has received an unusually high number of returns for the Vision Pro, far outpacing the returns on any other Apple product.

The report also claims Apple has dropped work on the Vision Pro and has moved members of the team to other projects within the company. Some of the redistributed personnel are working on Siri. While this indicates there are no plans for the Vision Pro, Apple may just be reallocating resources to insure the Siri project doesn’t face any more embarrassing delays. After all, it hasn’t been that long since the Vision Pro received some update love and once Siri is in lace, former Vision Pro members could be brought back into the fold.

While there have been rumors of a new lighter-weight, lower cost version Vision Pro over the last few years, that project was halted last year. While plans could always change, the company currently has no plans for a new model. That said, the M5 Vision Pro continues to be available, nor has it been officially discontinued.

Although Apple may be dropping any plans for new Vision Pro models down the line, Apple is widely rumored to be working on smart glasses that will eventually incorporate augmented reality capabilities. However, the first version is expected be similar to the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses with AI and no integrated display.
