Apple on Monday announced tvOS 27, the upcoming new software version for Apple TV. The new software will bring multiple new features, but unfortunately owners of some older Apple TV boxes will not be able to update.
Apple TV will get an updated Podcasts appm a new smart downloads features, performance improvements, new accessibility features, and more.
Apple has yet to launch a tvOS 27 preview page, so we may not yet know all of the new features that will come along for the ride.
We do know about the following new features:
tvOS 27 is available as a developer beta, a public beta will be seeded in July, and we’ll likely see a public release in September.
Unfortunately, two Apple TV models that were compatible with tvOS 26 are no longer able to run tvOS 27. The new software is compatible the Apple TV 4K (2nd generation) and newer, according to Apple’s documentation.
That means the Apple TV HD from 2015 and the Apple TV 4K (1st generation) from 2017 are not compatible with tvOS 27.
Apple says tvOS 27 is compatible with the Apple TV 4K (2nd generation) and newer.
A new Apple TV 4K (4th generation) is expected to launch later this year.
