Apple TV has scored the coveted EGOT (winning an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony award) faster than any other streaming service ::COUGH!:: Netflix! ::COUGH!::
Apple TV’s original musical comedy, “Schmigadoon!” – which was cancelled after only two seasons despite having a third season already written and ready to go – became a hit Broadway musical after its cancellation.
In May 2026 the show was nominated for 12 Tony Awards, and has won four of them, including some biggies:
- Best Musical
- Best Book of a Musical
- Best Original Score
- Best Orchestrations
The stage show is based on the Apple TV series and in part the story of its first season.
“I think I should start by thanking Apple TV for canceling the third season of ‘Schmigadoon’ the TV show,” stage show producer Christine Schwarzmann said in her acceptance speech, “because without them we couldn’t have picked it up and ran with it.”
Lorne Michaels, a producer of both the stage and TV versions of the story, told Deadline backstage that the show had “gone through many iterations, but I think this is the best version of it ever.”
How Apple TV Scored EGOT Status
Apple TV debuted in 2019, and began its run of awards in 2020, with actor Billy Crudup winning Apple’s first Emmy for “The Morning Show.” Multiple Emmys followed, and then in 2022, the film “CODA” made Apple the first streaming service to win a Best Picture Oscar.
In February 2026, Apple won a Best Country Solo Performance Grammy for Chris Stapleton’s song on the “F1: The Movie” soundtrack.
While it took Apple around six years to reach EGOT status, it took Netflix around 12 years to score all four of the major performing art awards in the United States. Netflix completed the coveted superfecta in 2025 with a Tony win for Stranger Things: The First Shadow.
