Comcast-owned streaming service Peacock is hitting its customers with a $3 per month price hike. Variety reports that Peacock’s ad-supported plan will be priced at $10.99 per month beginning July 23.
Peacock’s Premium Plus plan (say that three times fast) that offers limited ads in live programming is also increasing in price from $13.99 to $16.99. Yearly pricing for the Premium plan will rise to $110, and the Premium Plus yearly price tag will be $170.
While this is the third price increase for the service over the last three years, Variety says NBCUniversal executives believe the service is underpriced compared to competitors.
At $11 per month, Peacock’s ad-supported tier will be priced more dearly than similar ad-supported options from Netflix, Disney+, Paramount+, and others. Peacock is also testing a cheaper “Select” plan, featuring current seasons of NBC and Bravo, as well as a limited number of library titles. That plan will be priced at $7.99 per month.
When Peacock debuted in 2020, customers paid $4.99 per month for the service’s premium tier which included ads, and a $9.99 per month for an ad-free experience.
New subscriber will start paying the increased subscription prices on July 23, while existing subscribers will be hit with the higher fees on their next billing date after August 22.
