Bloomberg’s Gurman: Apple Planning to Upgrade MacBook Pro Lineup Twice This Year

Bloomberg’s Gurman: Apple Planning to Upgrade MacBook Pro Lineup Twice This Year

Apple is planning to release new MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, Mac Studio, and Studio Display models in the first half of 2026, claims Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman.

Gurman’s comments came in Sunday’s edition of his Power On newsletter. Gurman says Apple also has plans to release redesigned MacBook Pro models with an OLED touch screen “toward the end of 2026,” meaning the MacBook Pro lineup would benefit from an upgrade twice this year.

Gurman expects MacBook Pro models with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips will be the first upgrades. The MacBook Pro is also expected to receive a major revamp in late 2026, although that could be delayed until 2027. The second upgrade is expected to include an OLED touch screen, a Dynamic Island, M6 Pro and M6 Max chips, a thinner design, and built-in cellular connectivity.

Apple’s new Creator Studio bundle of apps launches on Wednesday, January 28. The company has also has also invited a select number of creators to an “Apple Experience” in Los Angeles, California, scheduled for January 27 to 29. It has been speculated that Apple may use the “experience” as an opportunity to announce new M5 Pro– and M5 Max-powered MacBook Pro models.

The MacBook Air is also expected to get an M5-related upgrade, with the Mac Studio expected to get the more powerful Max and M5 Ultra chips.

Many expected to soon see a new Studio Display, possibly boasting mini-LED backlighting, ProMotion support for up to a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR support, and either an A19 or A19 Pro chip. Last month, such a beast was reportedly spotted in a Chinese regulatory database.

A lower-cost MacBook powered by an iPhone chip (possibly a version of the iPhone 16 Pro’s A18 Pro chip), as well as an updated Mac mini are also expected sometime this year.
