Apple TV series Palm Royale will not return for a third season, reports Deadline. The Emmy-nominated comedy-drama has been cancelled after two seasons. Luckily for fans, the second season finale did tie up loose ends, while still allowing for a third season if renewed.
The show was created by Abe Sylvia and starred Kristen Wiig, who led a star-studded ensemble cast that included Laura Dern, Allison Janney, Leslie Bibb, Amber Chardae Robinson, Mindy Cohn, Ricky Martin, Josh Lucas, Julia Duffy, and Carol Burnett.
The show received multiple award nominations over its two seasons, including 11 Emmy Award noms for the first season, including Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy for Wiig, and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for Burnett. Of the shows 11 nominations, the series took home a single Emmy statuette, for Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music. Season 2 saw Wiig being nominated for the Annual Actor Awards, as well as a GLAAD Media Award nomination for Outstanding Comedy Series.
Deadline says Apple declined to comment about the cancellation when contacted.
Loosely based on Juliet McDaniel’s novel Mr. and Mrs. American Pie and produced by Apple Studios, Palm Royale follows an ambitious woman (Wiig) schemes to secure a seat at America’s most exclusive table: Palm Beach high society, in 1969.
