Apple Hasn’t Fully Abandoned the Vision Pro, But Don’t Expect Any New Versions for the Next Two Years

Apple Hasn’t Fully Abandoned the Vision Pro, But Don’t Expect Any New Versions for the Next Two Years

Apple hasn’t abandoned its Vision Pro headset, although if you’re waiting on a new model, you’ll probably have to cool your heels for at least two more years, according to Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman.

Gurman’s comments came in the latest edition of his weekly Power On newsletter. Gurman denies that Apple has given up on the headset completely. He says that instead, the company is continuing to develop new technologies and materials behind the scenes with the goal of eventually producing a cheaper, lighter enclosed headset.

“Apple continues to advertise positions related to visionOS on its jobs website because visionOS remains in development for the company’s future augmented reality glasses, which are a high priority, and because Apple needs to keep supporting current Vision Pro users who spent $3,499 before tax, storage upgrades and accessories on their headset.”

That said, no such product is apparently in active development, and the much-rumored “Vision Air” was canceled last year, as the VPG hardware team is focused on other AI wearables, such as AirPods with cameras and an AI pendant.

“So, here’s what’s next for visionOS: not much. This year’s visionOS 27 update will be light on new features compared with visionOS 26 and instead focus on performance, bug fixes and parity with the other “27” operating systems. That means adding the new AI editing tools, Siri features and other enhancements that will be part of iOS 27, iPadOS 27 and macOS 27.”

Apple refreshed the Vision Pro in October 2025 with an updated model featuring an M5 chip.
