Oregon Brings in iPads to Help Disabled Citizens Vote

Tomorrow’s U.S. election will be a very interesting one in Oregon, as some voters will be allowed to cast their ballots from iPads, reports the Associated Press. Election officials will be equipped with iPads, and will be visiting disabled voters to allow them to vote more easily.

The iPads will be pre-loaded with a special app to allow the user to select a candidate, and the ballot will be printed out by election officials in order for the voter to review their selections and confirm their vote. The app will even allow voters to change the font size and color to be more comfortable to them.

This is just another way that iPads can make people’s lives easier, and I for one am excited to see this making life easier for disabled voters. Apple donated five iPads to the state of Oregon to test the program, but the state had to spend $72,000 on developing the custom voting software.

If this program is successful, it will likely spread across to country to all 50 states.
