Navy Wants iPads for Use in Executive Dining Facility at the Pentagon

We’ve all seen iPads being used “out in the wild” Hotels use them for concierge services in their rooms, airlines are offering them for in-flight entertainment. Now comes news that the U.S. Navy is planning on using them for a very important purpose… The Executive Dining Facility at the Pentagon.

Cult of Mac:

According to a recent government contract that is up for bid, the Navy plans to include iPads in a revamp of its Executive Dining Facility in the Pentagon. The dining room is often used by the Secretary of the Navy and regularly plays host to high-level Pentagon guests.

It appears the needs of the Navy are fairly normal and pedestrian, restaurant point of sale and food service technologies apps. Project requirements include standard reservation and payment systems, a web site that supports online ordering, integration with merchant systems, and maintenance agreements.

It’s unknown whether this indicates an overall interest in the iPad among Navy brass or if it’s just a way to improve the executive dining experience. It is nice to see that military officials are taking notice of the iPad and its range of potential uses.

It has not been announced if each iPad will also have “Battleship” installed for the high-level guests to while away the time as they wait for their chow to be delivered to their table.
