Bloomberg’s Gurman: New Apple TV to Have Updated Remote and Processor, Stronger Gaming Focus

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman today briefly reiterated what he says are Apple’s plans to release a new Apple TV that will feature an improved processor and an updated remote, as well as a stronger focus on gaming.

Gurman has previously mentioned that Apple is working on a new remote that includes “Find My” type capabilities that will make it easier to find when it inevitably slides down between the cushions or end up in the dog’s mouth.

As for the stronger focus on gaming, previous rumors have stated that Apple is working on a dedicated gaming controller for the little black box that could, but so far no one has any idea what such a controller would look like.

Earlier this month, a report by Nikkei Asia Review said its sources told it that Apple is currently working on a refreshed Apple TV device for release next year.

Bloomberg mentioned a new Apple TV equipped with a faster processor, and an updated remote that offers “Find My” capabilities back in September.

An October tweet by leaker Fudge (@choco_bit) claimed that Apple is preparing more than one new Apple TV set-top boxes, with one model powered by an A12 variant and another one that boasts an “A14X-like” chip. Fudge also claimed a new controller is in the works but doesn’t make it clear whether the controller is an updated Siri Remote or a new, Apple-designed game controller.

Considering that the last time the Apple TV saw any real update love was over three years when the Apple TV 4K was released, it’s looking like a new release may be imminent. We’ll keep you posted.
