Apple today seeded the second public betas of its upcoming iOS 18.5, iPadOS 18.5, and macOS Sequoia 15.5 updates for testing. The public betas come one day after Apple seeded developers the third developer betas of all three.
Public beta testers can download the updates by going to the Settings app, then tapping on “General” -> “Software Update” on iPhone and iPad devices, and going to “System Settings” -> “General” -> “Software Update” on the Mac after opting into the beta through Apple’s public beta testing website.
iOS 18.5, iPadOS 18.5, and macOS Sequoia 15.5 are relatively minor updates, and only minor changes have been discovered. The software mostly focuses on bug fixes and security improvements behind the scenes. However, iOS 18.5 and iPadOS 18.5 do introduce a few new design changes, more options for reverting the Mail app back to the prior design (including removing contact photos), and AppleCare information has been easier to find.
Apple is expected to release iOS 18.5, iPadOS 18.5, macOS Sequoia 15.5, and the other software updates sometime in May.
As usual, MacTrast and Apple both warn users to not install any betas or release candidates on their daily driver iPhone, iPad, or Mac. Instead, only install betas on a device set aside for testing purposes.
