The All One Farm in Oregon can be had for a mere $5 million. Why is that Apple-worthy news? Apple co-founder Steve Jobs hung out there on weekends during the early 1970s and the company’s lore says the farm’s Apple orchard inspired how Jobs would name his fledgling computer company. Oh yeah, one other thing, Jobs’ daughter, Lisa Brennan-Jobs, was born there.
As reported by Oregon Live, the “All One Farm” near McMinnville, is up for sale for $5 million. Records show that this is the first time the farm has been put up for sale since Steve Jobs’ college buddy Robert Friedland started a commune there in the early 1970s.
Jobs and Friedland both attended Reed College in Oregon and shared an interest in Eastern spirituality. So, while Friedland found followers to work the farm, Jobs stayed there on weekends and helped to work the farm.
The current owners of the farm don’t seem to be using the Jobs connections to the farm as a huge selling point, although they do mention the connection in the listing. The $5 million asking price is actually a bit lower than market average in the surrounding area.
The listing on the Windermere realtor site lists 387 acres spread among five parcels, and the deal also includes a 4-bedroom and 2.5-bathroom 5,260 square foot main house. The farm, located outside of McMinnville, also comes with a large barn with a ballroom floor, a greenhouse, and an outdoor kitchen.
Most recently, a February 2025 deal saw a 350 acre property located approximately 70 miles away go for $6 million. Another property sale about 165 miles away, saw farm land of 356 acres and a 1,668 square foot building, go for $6.5 million in June 2024.
That story of how the farm’s orchards inspired Jobs to name his company “Apple” is apprently true, as co-founder Wozniak confirms that Jobs came back with the inspiration following a weekend on a farm. All indications point to this being that farm.
As for the farm being the birthplace of Jobs long-estranged daugher, Lisa Brennan-Jobs, she was indeed born there. Jobs was in a relationship with Chrisann Brennan, who eventually came to live at the commune. Brennan-Jobs was born there in 1978, although Jobs wasn’t present for the birth, and for several years following, denied paternity of the child.
Jobs denial of paternity for Lisa lead to a legal case and several unflattering media reports. Jobs eventually did accept paternity and he and Lisa and Steve Jobs did eventually reconcile.
