This Analyst Claims a Low-Cost MacBook Powered By iPhone Chip is on the Way

Apple has plans to launch a low-cost MacBook that is powered by an iPhone Chip, according to well-connected Apple industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

In an extended post on X, Kuo said the 13-inch device will be powered by the A18 chip, marking the first time a Mac will be powered by an iPhone chip:

1. More-Affordable MacBook:
  • Expected to enter mass production in late 4Q25 or early 1Q26, with an approximately 13-inch display and powered by the A18 Pro processor. Potential casing colors include silver, blue, pink, and yellow
  • Apple aims to return total MacBook shipments to the COVID-19 peak of around 25 million units in 2026 (vs. an estimated 20 million units in 2025). The more-affordable MacBook is projected to account for 5–7 million units for 2026.

So far, all Apple Silicon Macs have been powered by M-series chips, which boast more cores, offer support for larger amounts of memory, and better support for external displays. Possible casing colors for the new MacBook are silver, blue, pink, and yellow.

The lower-price MacBook could enter mass production as soon as the fourth quarter of 2025 or early 2026. Kuo says Apple is aiming to return to total MacBook shipments to the COVID-19 peak of around 25 million units in 2026 (vs. an estimated 20 million units in 2025). Kuo says the more-affordable MacBook could account for 5 to 7 million units during 2026. Everwin Precision is expected to be a key beneficiary of the new MacBook, as it will handle the manufacture of the MacBook casings.
