Last-Minute Rumor Claims iPhone 17 Pro to Have Smaller Dynamic Island

Apple will unveil its iPhone 17 lineup on Tuesday, and a last-minute rumor claims the Dynamic Island on the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will be smaller, thanks to a more compact front-facing camera and sensor system.

The leak comes from a new rumor source who claims to work for a company that makes iPhone screen protectors. According to the rumor monger, the width of the Dynamic Island has shrunk to approximately 1.5cm, down from 2cm on the iPhone 16.

While we normally wouldn’t bother with a rumor from an unproven source, or at least take it with a grain of our favorite low-sodium seasoning, there have been several rumors that Apple was planning to shrink the Dynamic Island as of the iPhone 17 lineup.

Usually-reliable analyst Jeff Pu earlier this year indicated that the iPhone 17 Pro Max would boast a smaller Dynamic Island. Meanwhile, leaker “Majin Bu” said the Dynamic Island experience on the iPhone will undergo “significant evolution” over the next few years.

However, in January, Apple industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that the size of the Dynamic Island on the iPhone 17 lineup will be “largely unchanged” from the iPhone 16 models.

We’ll find out for sure on Tuesday whether or not the iPhone 17 Pro models will sport a smaller Dynamic Island, so stay tuned.
