Gurman: Apple Glasses to Launch in ‘Late 2027’ Boasting These Features

Apple is targeting “late 2027” as a launch date for its first-generation smart glasses, according to Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman. He had previously stated that Apple

He previously said that Apple planned to launch the glasses by early 2027, but he said the product has been delayed due to development issues.

Gurman says the glasses will feature “oval-shaped cameras, unique colors, and multiple frame styles.” “Over time, Apple believes the glasses could evolve into a health device and eventually incorporate augmented reality technologies capable of improving how people see,” he said, while noting that this technology is likely years away.

Gurman’s sources tell him that Apple’s CEO Tim Cook views the glasses as his “top priority” before he steps down on September 1.

The glasses will compete with products in the $200 to $500 range in the U.S., Gurman said, and like the Meta Ray-Bans, they will boast built-in cameras that will allow users to capture both photos and videos. They will also likely sport built-in speakers and microphones for phone calls, music, and sudio Siri notifications. Turn-by-turn walking directions may also be included in the feature set.

Gurman also said Apple is designing its own plastic frames for the smart glasses, and potential designs include a larger rectangular frame, a slimmer rectangular design, larger oval or circular frames, and smaller oval or circular frames.

A range of color options is being explored, including black, ocean blue, and light brown, and may have vertically-oriented oval camera lenses, he said.

Gurman does not expect Apple’s first smart glasses to have an in-lens augmented reality display, and doesn’t expect such a feature for at least a few years.
